Collector terms, in plain language
Base card
The standard version of a card in a set, with no special finish or serial numbering.
Parallel
An alternate version of a base card with a different finish, colour or print run.
Refractor
A chrome card with a reflective, rainbow-like shine when tilted in the light.
Numbered card
A card produced in a stated quantity, for example /99 means 99 copies exist.
Serial number
The hand or machine stamped number on a card, such as 07/25.
Insert
A themed card outside the base checklist, usually seeded at a set rate in packs.
Short print
A card printed in smaller numbers than the rest of the set, often unannounced.
Super short print
An even scarcer short print, typically the hardest pull in its tier.
Case hit
A card that averages roughly one per case rather than one per box.
Autograph
A card signed by the artist or subject, on card or via a signed sticker.
Sketch card
A hand-drawn one-of-one created by an artist directly on the card.
Relic
A card containing a piece of memorabilia or material tied to the subject.
Superfractor
The one-of-one top parallel of a chrome set, usually gold and heavily refractive.
Sapphire
A premium chrome treatment released as its own product with exclusive parallels.
Rainbow
Collecting every parallel of one card, from base through to the one-of-one.
Master set
Every card in a release, including inserts and parallels, not just the base checklist.
First appearance
The first time a character appears on a trading card in any release.
First Chrome
The first time a character appears in a chrome release specifically.
